Radiology & Ultrasound

Radiographs provide our veterinarians at Glacier Animal Hospital with an invaluable tool in the diagnosis of diseases too numerous to list. Radiographs can also be used to assess the effectiveness of a treatment plan for many medical problems. Our doctors believe strongly in client education, so each radiograph is reviewed with the owner by looking at normal examples first followed by looking at the radiograph of that owner’s pet for comparison. Abnormalities then become easier to demonstrate and treatment plans based on radiographic findings become easier to convey. If a radiographic diagnosis proves elusive or questionable, we can send images to board certified radiologists for further review.

Ultrasound is a fantastic, non-invasive tool to evaluate many of your pet’s internal organ systems. Diseases of the heart, liver, spleen, kidneys, urinary bladder, reproductive tract, and gastrointestinal tract are all identified much more quickly and with more precision with the help of a sonogram. We have a digital ultrasound machine that produces sharp, crisp, well-defined images and our veterinarians literally use it every day. It cannot be overstated how this one piece of diagnostic equipment has proven invaluable in increasing both the sensitivity and the confidence in the diagnosis of diseases that would otherwise prove difficult. We love how ultrasound has made it easier to diagnose veterinary cardiac disease such as canine dilated cardiomyopathy, heart valve disease, feline hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and congenital cardiac abnormalities. Early cancer diagnosis often would not be possible without the use of ultrasound. Like radiographs that may prove difficult to interpret, we have the ability to transmit our digital ultrasound images or video clips to board certified specialists for further interpretation.
